How are you handling fabric edge fraying in your custom apparel production?

      Hi fellow apparel professionals,

      I wanted to start a discussion about a common challenge we see in the industry: edge fraying and deformation when cutting custom fabric labels and patches, especially with today's delicate synthetic blends or stretchable materials.

      In our factory (JFFC), we recently integrated an automated conveyor-based laser cutting system to address this. Unlike traditional mechanical die-cutting which physically presses and tears the fibers, the laser instantly vaporizes the material, creating a self-sealing, zero-fray edge. Since it's non-contact, there's also zero pressure deformation on the fabric.

      The biggest benefit we've found is eliminating expensive steel molds. Digital programming allows us to do rapid prototyping for complex custom shapes at a much lower cost, which is perfect for small-batch testing before mass production.

      1. Are you still relying on traditional die-cutting, or have you switched to laser technology for your fabric components?

      2. How do you balance the cost of custom molds versus the flexibility of digital cutting?
